You recently unveiled some improvements at DuPont State & Recreational Forest in the western part of the state.
“On July 1 we opened a visitor center, a parking lot and a pedestrian bridge. We think it will enhance visitor education and safety. After the movie Hunger Games, it became a very popular place. We have now created a more safe place as well as a gorgeous scenic view.
It’s the only recreational forest we have in NC. The DuPont company had a manufacturing plant there. It’s a combination of hiking, riding, trails, fishing, horses and a working forest.
It’s been open a little over ten years. It’s located on the border of Henderson and Transylvania Counties.
There were a lot of parties involved in getting these projects done. Many political figures, including state Senators and Representatives were vital in getting them done.
The visitors center is a very unique building. We have a classroom in the center as well. Its open to the public 365 days per year.”
