National Farmers’ Market Week Underway Monday

North Carolina’s Ag Commissioner, Steve Troxler says that National Farmers’ Market week is coming up on August 7th through the 13th, but there’s activity at all four state-owned farmers’ markets year around in Raleigh, Charlotte, Asheville and Greensboro.

These markets host a variety of special event days highlighting the state’s crops; peaches, strawberries, watermelon and so on.  Recently, the Raleigh market hosted Watermelon Day and had the largest watermelon ever weighed in competition, at 237.5 pounds entered in the watermelon weigh in.

However, the state markets aren’t the only ones.  USDA says there’s more than 250 markets across the state.  To find one near you visit
