Commissioner’s Cup BBQ Cook-off and Festival

South Carolina Department of Agriculture just completed the 6th annual Commissioner’s Cup BBQ Cook-off this past weekend at the State Farmers Market in Columbia.

This year there were 41 cook teams from across the southeast and they slow cooked nearly two tons of Boston butts, plus ribs as a part of the Southern BBQ Network sanctioned event.

There was a new component to this year’s competition, Kid’s Que, whee kids between the ages of six and 12 cooked up hamburgers for judging.

The 2017 State BBQ Champion was Killer B’s BBQ, the People’s Choice award went to Steel Smok’n Smokerz, and Reserve Champion went to Doko Smoke.

A native of the Texas Panhandle, Rhonda was born and raised on a cotton farm where she saw cotton farming evolve from ditch irrigation to center pivot irrigation and harvest trailers to modules. After graduating from Texas Tech University, she got her start in radio with KGNC News Talk 710 in Amarillo, Texas.
