Commissioner Weathers: Wild for Certified SC

Now in its 36th year, the Southeastern Wildlife Expo will be held next weekend, February 16-18, in Charleston.  Here’s Commissioner Hugh Weathers with more:

  • SEWE celebrates fine art, sporting demonstrations, food and drink provides the public with easy access to wildlife and nature conservation programs
  • There will be over 500 artists and exhibitors from around the globe who showcase their crafts to an estimated 40,000 attendees
  • You’ll find our SCDA tent in Marion Square where we’ll have 28 Certified SC specialty food vendors.
  • Choose from BBQ sauces, jams and jellies, olive oils and specialty spices all packed with local flavor
  • Once again this year, we hope to inspire you to get a little “Wild in the kitchen” with cooking demonstrations
  • This year the Certified SC kitchen features food experts Matt and Ted Lee, known to food enthusiasts as The Lee Brothers. In addition to kicking off the cooking demonstrations with one of their own, these nationally known, locally grown culinary experts will host all the Fresh on the Menu demonstrations.
  • Hear from chefs whose restaurants have helped put South Carolina on the culinary map with creative recipes, authentic cuisine and the art of using South Carolina’s freshest ingredients to make mouthwatering menus.
  • Three of the state’s four Chef Ambassadors will prepare special dishes throughout the weekend. The Chef Ambassador program recognizes chefs from the upcountry to the coast who embody the best of South Carolina’s food scene, both in the quality of their provisions, and their dedication to using healthy, locally-grown ingredients. Cookbooks that whet your appetite for Certified SC cuisine will be available.
  • They’ll dish out some of their secrets to cooking with Certified SC grown products. After all, it’s a matter of taste.
  • At the root of the delicious, local food are the hardworking men and women who grow and produce it.  While you’re in the Certified SC tent, take a moment to view the Roots of Your Food videos, and join us in saluting the farmers of South Carolina. In addition, the Fresh on the Menu phone app allows consumers to locate restaurants around the state that feature South Carolina’s delicious culinary offerings.
  • There’s really something for everyone at SEWE, even if hunting isn’t your thing. I hope you’ll join us this year at the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition as we celebrate the wealth of natural resources found right here in SC.
