Commissioner Weathers: Ag + Art Tour Returns in June

The Ag + Art Tour designed to blend agriculture and art is expanding every year, and this year will be the best yet. Commissioner Hugh Weathers is here to tell us more about this year’s activities.

  • The 2018 SC Ag + Art tour is a free self-guided tour that will showcase nearly 80 agricultural sites in SC as well as feature local artisans and farmers markets
  • People will be able to interact with over 130 artisans
  • SC Ag + Art tour is the nation’s largest, free, self-guided tour
  • Tours have expanded to include 12 SC counties over four weekends
  • One of the goals of the tour is to give people an up close look at how their food is grown on the farm
  • We hope that the tour will encourage people to continue buying local farms and farmers markets
  • People can watch artists in action and purchase their works while listening to the melodies of bluegrass and folk songs
  • The artisans range from weavers, painters, musicians, story-tellers, metal-workers and craftsmen to poets and singers
  • Having artisans on site during the targeted weekends adds a fun component that makes the tour more of a family event
  • 2018 Tour Times: Saturdays 9-5 and Sundays 1-5
    • June 2-3 is Chesterfield, Darlington, Florence, Horry and Kershaw Counties
    • June 9-10 is Chester, Lancaster and York Counties
    • June 16-17 is Fairfield County
    • June 23-24 is Newberry, Union and Spartanburg Counties
  • Each county has an average of 4-5 stops that include anything from horse farms, farmers markets, nurseries, aquaponics, creameries and conventional farms like cotton and grain
