Commissioner Steve Troxler: Got to Be NC Festival Coming May 17-19!

The 11th Annual Got to Be NC Festival will be held May 17-19 at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. Sometimes referred to as a mini State Fair, the festival features a daily tractor parade, the Food Lion Local Goodness Marketplace, antique tractors and farm equipment, carnival rides, animal exhibits and more. The festival and parking is free. Rides and food range in price.

  • Well, it’s just about that time of year again. Time for the Got to Be NC Festival May 17-19 at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.
  • I look forward to this event every year. The footprint of the festival is a little smaller than the State Fair, but you will still find plenty to see and do with the whole family at the Got to Be NC Festival.
  • One of my favorite things about the festival is the daily tractor parade around the grounds and the display of antique tractors and farm equipment.
  • I promise you, you will see just about every color and make of tractor, including pink.
  • It’s fun to hear these tractors, and see how much they differ from today’s models. You really get an appreciation for what farmers even 40 years ago went through to put a crop in the ground and harvest it.
  • The advances of today are quite impressive, including tractors that will drive themselves. But rest assured, all the tractors in the parade will have drivers.
  • Food Lion also came on board this year to sponsor the Food Lion Local Goodness Marketplace, which will feature around 100 North Carolina food and beverage vendors who will be sampling some of their products.
  • The Marketplace will be in the Expo Center, and it offers a great opportunity to not only taste local food products, but you can also purchase them there.
  • Admission for the Marketplace is $3.
  • Depending on what day you attend, you will be able to hear bluegrass bands compete in the Carolina Bluegrass Battle (Saturday,May 18); enjoy an antique tractor pull (Saturday) or a garden tractor and lawnmower pull (Sunday); or enjoy your fill of delicious North Carolina pork prepared by competing Masonic teams in the 14th Annual Masonic Carolina Pig Jog BBQ Cook-off (Saturday).
  • There are also free grounds acts such as racing pigs, a trick pony show, magic shows and a cowboy circus. Fun for the whole family.
  • And if you like to ride rides, you can buy a one-price, ride-all-day wristband on Friday and Sunday for $20.
  • During the festival, we will be holding Casey’s Big Ticket Weekend, which will allow N.C. State Fairgoers to purchase admission tickets for the 2018 prices. We are going up on ticket prices this year, but if you plan to attend the 2019 fair, this is a great way to save some money.
  • Adult admission is $8 and kids’ admission is $3. Tickets are on sale at the ticket booth by Dorton Arena and they can also be purchased online at
  • There is a limit of 20 tickets.
