Commissioner Hugh Weathers: ACRE Grant Applications Now open

SC Ag Commissioner Hugh Weathers talks about SCDA’s initiative, the Agribusiness Center for Research and Entrepreneurship.

  • As many dedicated listeners know we were excited to launch the Agribusiness Center for Research and Entrepreneurship (ACRE) last year. We had a successful inaugural year and look forward to building on that success

 

  • ACRE, an initiative of the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) helps connect entrepreneurs with new opportunities in agriculture, agriculture research and agribusiness to strengthen the state’s economy, particularly in rural counties

 

  • ACRE’s Entrepreneurship Center is launching another round of applications today, March 11th and the applications will be due on May 1st. Only applications that are South Carolina resident’s agribusiness related will be accepted

 

  • The ACRE Entrepreneurship Center seeks the most innovative and forward thinkers in South Carolina agribusiness for participation in an Entrepreneurship Program– This program is going to be a collaborative partnership between the EC and the accepted entrepreneurs

 

  • EC is looking for companies and products it can help through a collaborative effort

 

  • Applicants selected to participate in the EC Program could receive up to $25,000 for their company or product and/or access to a network business mentors and grant writing consultants

 

  • Track 1 is for agribusiness entrepreneurs who already have a product or business-Track 1 participants are required to have a business plan and must have a prototype or sales history for the company or product for which they have applied

 

  • Track 2, a curriculum program for beginning innovators who have a great idea for a new product or process but don’t have experience in business, will take place in the fall/winter
