Commissioner Hugh Weathers: Plant and Flower Festivals

Commissioner, the South Carolina Department of Agriculture is hosting the Midlands Spring Plant & Flower Festival April 11-14th at the State Farmers Market in West Columbia. Can you tell us more about this annual event?

  • The Midlands Spring Plant and Flower festival is coming up this weekend, and now that the weather is warming up a bit, it’s a great time to get outside and find plants that will bring color to your spring and summer, or to plant early for this coming fall season.
  • The event runs Thursday through Saturday 8am until 6pm, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Admission is free and will be held rain or shine.
  • Over 85 vendors at the Midlands Festival will be showcasing everything from lawn and garden equipment and furniture to seasonal plants and flowers.
  • Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and provide free gardening advice during the festival.
  • The wide selection of plants will be tempting, so you can bring along a wagon or rent one at the festival to cart along all the flowers and items you pick and choose.
  • The Midlands Spring Plant and Flower Festival is also a great time try a variety of local food trucks that will be in attendance.
  • This will also be a perfect opportunity to stock up on fresh Certified South Carolina Products from members of the South Carolina Specialty Food Association who’ll be exhibiting at the festival. Just look for the Certified SC logo to support your local vendors.
  • Be sure to explore other activities at the Farmer’s Market while you’re there, like the Market Restaurant and the Market Tea Room and Country Store, where you can shop for Certified SC Specialty Foods.
