Bayer LibertyLink System Yields Comparable to Other Brands

We are joined by Malone Roseman, Technical Services Representative for Bayer CropScience in the MidAtlantic region.

Tell us how LibertyLink soybeans compare in yield to others in the market?

“Grower surveys across the country indicate that about 90% of growers who planted LibertyLink soybeans rated them as good or better than RoundUp Ready soybeans. Here in the Carolinas, Bayer now has many LibertyLink varieties in maturity groups that fit this area. Our Hornbeck line of soybean seed has also performed well. With cotton, our Stoneville 4145 LibertyLink has yielded comparable to other leading varieties. Also, our double stack variety, FiberMax 1944 GLB2, which is tolerant to both glyphosate as well as Liberty herbicide, has really performed well compared to other leading varieties.”

What solutions does Bayer offer to maximize soybean yields with LibertyLink crops?

“Bayer LibertyLink cotton and soybean varieties offer growers an option to apply herbicides with different modes of action other than glyphosate if resistant weeds are a concern. These options fit in with the respect the rotation initiative that Bayer promotes. Respect the rotation is the promotion of rotating crops, herbicide traits and modes of action that will help maintain current technologies.”

I understand that proper application of Liberty is very important:

“The proper application of Liberty is critical to make the LibertyLink system effective. Liberty is a contact type herbicide that does not translocate, therefore coverage is key. To achieve adequate coverage, apply Liberty to weeds that are at or below labeled heights and use nozzles that deliver medium sized droplets, calibrated to deliver about 15 or more gallons per acre.”

Tell us about how the LibertyLink link up offer works:

“This is a new link up tool that was launched in late September and allows growers to work with their retailers and their seed sellers to forecast Liberty herbicide requirements when booking LibertyLink seed. It is very important that growers forecast their Liberty herbicide needs in this tool when booking their LibertyLink soybeans, cotton or canola. Information from this Link up tool will be used to align supply of Liberty with LibertyLink seed.”
