NC Prospecitve Plantings Report Showing Significant Increase in Peanut Acres

North Carolina's 2012 Prospective Plantings Report is snowing 100,000 acres of peanuts are to be planted in the state. According to NC Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler this is a 22 percent increase over last year, and the most in the state since 2008.

The state will also see a modest incresae in acres for corn and soybeans with 2011. Soybean plantings in North Carolina are projected to be up 4 percent, to 1.43 million acres. Swwet potato acreage is forecast to be up 3 percent.

In 2011, high cotton prices prompted cotton farmers to plant more than 800,00 acres of the crop, this year, farmers say they will plant 700,000 acres, a 13 percent drop.
