North Carolina's Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler is optimistic about this year's winter wheat crop in the state. A January report indicated that there was more than 800,000 acres of wheat in the state this year.
Of course, the crop isn't without it's concerns, one beign the weather. A late heavy freeze, or hail storm could change the course of the crop for many growers.
There are some reports that some growers mowed their wheat early in the year, but other than that, the crop has been reletively disease free this year, while it could use a good rain.
