NC Ag Commissioner Backs Potato Referendum

The North Carolina Potato Association will be holding their mandated six-year referendum this month, with ballots going out on March 15th, with a return date of no later than March 28th.

The self-assessment of the Association, according to NC Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler will econmpas nine North Carolina counties; Beaufort, Camden, Carteret, Currituck, Hyde, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Tyrell and Washington.  Farmers will vote on whether to approve a new six-year assessment program, and the plan must be approved by a two-thirds vote. 

Potato growers currently pay one cent per hundred-weight of potataoes, and the current assessment referendum, if passed, will go through 2017.
