North Carolina's Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler is concerned that the US Department of Agriculture is proposing to close most state NASS offices and consolidate them into nine regional offices as a budget-cutting measure. The NASS office that would oversee North Carolina would be located in Lexington, Kentucky. Commisioner Troxler says that this consolidation would be bad for North Carolina, w hich has benefited greatly from one of the largest partnerships with NASS, which dates back to 1919.
Because of the close relationship between NCDA and the NASS field office, NCDA has been able to provide reliable and esential information to NC's agricultural community.
While the Commissioner has had conversations with Senators Kay Hagen and Richard Burr, Troxler suggests agricultural producers and agribusiness people contact the senators or their representatives to oppose this proposal.
