NC General Assembly Passes Farmer-Friendly Legislation | | | Program 5529 (download mp3) Posted on Tue, Jul 26, 2011 |
North Carolina's Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler says that the General Assembly passed several farmer-friendly pieces of legislation this session, not the least of which is House Bill 168.
Troxler explains that the the bill accomplishes three things; first, it gives specific examples of items or documents that can serve as evidence that the property is being used for bonafide farm purposes. The second thing the bill does is prohibit cities and towns from annexing legally identified farms without the consent of the owner, and third, the bill states that legimate farms in a city or town's extraterritorial jurisdiction are exempt from zoning requirements and ordinances.
