Last Friday began the new budget year for North Carolina government. NC Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler says that agencies across state government will have less money to operate with this year, and the Ag Department wasn't spared.
NCDA lost some positions, as well as loosing money for farmland preservation projects, but the Commissioner is confident that they will be able to manage the reductions without a significant drop in core services.
Commissioner Troxler says that he's relieved that one proposal wasn't included in the final budget, the one that would have eliminated funding for four research stations in Kinston, Oxford, Butner and Whiteville. Troxler says that they were able to convince the legislature that closing research stations is not wise for the future of agriculture in our state.
