Some Good Things for Agriculture Came out of NC's General Assembly | | | Program 5157 (download mp3) Posted on Tue, Jun 21, 2011 |
North Carolina's Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler says that the General Assembly adopted several pieces of legislation affecting the state's agricultural industry this session. One of those bill exempts certain small-scale processing of agricultural products from wastewater permit requirements. This law basically says that a farmer or other agribuiness doing small-scale processing of their own products will not need to get a permit for the system they use to treat and dispose of the wastewater produced from those processing activities.
The legislation applies to any small-scale processing of value-added products from agricultural commidities. Some examples would be smale-scale winemaking, cheese making and vegetable processing.
