National Ag Week | | | Program 442 (download mp3) Posted on Tue, Mar 16, 2010 |
North Carolina's Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler says that this is the week for farmers and ranchers to educate the non-farming public about National Ag Week, that ends with National Ag Day on Saturday, March 20th. National Ag Week is always around the first day of spring, which is Saturday. Agriculture is North Carolina's number one money maker to the tune of $70 billion a year, over three times the amount of its nearest competitor in the state.
Troxler says that a good way for non-farmers to learn about the industry is to visit a Farmers' Market and talk to the farmers about their operations, as well as to visit a farm through agritourism. Agritourism has become a big deal in North Carolina, with You-Pick farms for fruits and vegetables, corn mazes and pumpkin patches in the fall.
