NC Ag Commissioner Steve Troxler on the Dedication of the L.L. Polk House | | | Program 2971 (download mp3) Posted on Tue, Nov 23, 2010 |
Last week, the L.L. Polk House was dedicated in Raleigh. L.L. Polk was instrumental in founding the state's agricultureal department, and he served as the first Commissioner of Agriculture. He also helped start the colleges that became NC State University, and Meredith College. Polk was and Anson County native and cotton farmer who served as a colonel in the Civil War. He later became a newspaper editor and also founded the Progressive Farmer.
Commissioner Troxler attented the dedication of Polk's home last week. The home has been moved twice since it was built at its original location on Person Street. Visit the LL Polk Foundation website here... and NC Greenmarket features seasonal fresh NC produce at the Polk House...
