North Carolina has gotten a heaping dose of winter weather the past couple of weeks, and the snow storms and frigid temperatures have had an impact on some of the state’s farmers.

Wet soil conditions coupled with cold temperatures are affecting small grains in particular, Troxler says. On the other hand, strawberry plants appear to be in good shape because of protective measures taken by farmers.

Cold weather also can be harmful to livestock, Troxler says, so it’s important that they have plenty of food and water during the winter.

Listen in as Commissioner Troxler and Rhonda Garrison talk about how the cold snap is affecting crops and livestock.
