Animal Research Minute - Could spicy foods have unique health benefits?

Well, ABC Radio reports the compounds in spicy foods could be good for our hearts. When scientists fed hamsters - that were already on a high cholesterol diet - spicy food, they found the compounds in the spicy food lowered the hamsters’ bad cholesterol levels. It seems the spicy foods also helped to decrease the amount of plaque in the hamsters’ arteries. This study gives scientists a better idea of how spicy foods could help improve heart health in people.
