Animal Research Minute - Did you know dogs were very important in developing the bone marrow transplant?

Well, now dogs themselves are benefiting from this life-saving procedure. Technician Online reports that doctors at NC State have been able to perform bone marrow transplants in dogs with cancer, to save their lives. When Zeke, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was diagnosed with leukemia, they decided to perform a bone marrow transplant using donated bone marrow from his littermate, Chip. Thanks to medical research with animals, dogs like Zeke are able to receive the same life-saving procedures available for people.
