Animal Research Minute - Breakthroughs in Paralysis

Did you know researchers have made paralyzed rats walk again?
 

Well, according to New Scientist, a brand new technique for repairing a damaged spinal cord has been proven to restore walking in paralyzed rats – in just a matter of days. Within minutes after undergoing this operation, paralyzed rats could move previously non-functioning limbs. After about a month, most of the rats had regained 60 to 70 percent of their leg function. This incredible study gives scientists hope that one day a similar operation could be performed on people who are paralyzed and that they too could regain function of their limbs.
