Well, NewScientist reports that scientists working with monkeys are developing robotic limbs that are controlled by the monkeys’ own thoughts. The robotic limbs receive signals from the brain to guide their movement. So unlike standard prosthetic limbs, monkeys can control the robotic arms with their thoughts alone. If trials with monkeys continue to be successful, people living with spinal cord injuries could have access to these robotic limbs in as little as a year. These remarkable robotic arms would be a game changer for people living with paralysis.
