Animal Research Minute - Could multiple pregnancies lead to health problems for moms?

Well, new research with mice suggests multiple pregnancies could increase a woman’s risk of developing obesity and diabetes, HealthDay reports. Scientists studied pregnant mice and found mice in their fourth pregnancies were more likely to have glucose intolerance and excess fat tissue than mice in their first pregnancies. Mice that had been pregnant four times also had increased levels of inflammation-causing chemicals that can lead to cardiovascular disease. While more research is needed, this study suggests multiple pregnancies could pose health risks for women.
