Well, CBS News reports that a new study with rats shows when we are sleep-deprived our brain cells go into sleep-mode even when we are awake and alert. Our brains essentially take neuronal naps and when these naps occur it causes us to have memory lapses. When sleep-deprived rats experienced neuronal naps it became harder for the rats to perform simple tasks. Scientists believe a lack of sleep affects people in much the same way. So, even when we don’t feel tired, not getting enough sleep affects our brains.
