Animal Research Minute - Could stress be linked to memory loss?

Well, BBC News reports, researchers have discovered a link between a stress hormone called cortisol and forgetfulness. By studying mice, researchers discovered that as this stress hormone reaches high levels in the brain, it signals processes in the body that contribute to memory loss. However, researchers found a way to block these processes and reverse memory loss in mice. The possibility that memory loss could also be reversed in people is quite promising. This important discovery could help people living with a number of conditions affecting memory, including Alzheimer’s disease.
