Animal Research Minute - Experts say 90 percent of cancer deaths happen because cancer spreads throughout the body.
So what if we could stop cancer from spreading?
Well according to BBC News, scientists have discovered that blocking a certain enzyme in mice prevents cancer metastasis. In studies with mice, researchers used chemicals and antibodies to block a certain enzyme. Blocking this enzyme prevented breast cancer from spreading to other organs in the mice’s bodies. It is very difficult to treat cancer once it spreads. So this exciting finding will help scientists develop drugs to target this enzyme in people and perhaps stop cancer from metastasizing.
