Well, Reuters reports, scientists have developed an experimental gel that protected all monkeys in a recent study from contracting the monkey version of HIV. The gel is made up of an AIDS drug and a zinc compound. This new gel protected all monkeys from infection for up to one day after having applied the gel daily for two weeks. If this gel is as effective in people as it is in monkeys, it could be an important step in finding new preventative methods for AIDS, a fatal virus that has killed 25 million people.
