Well, it’s the zebrafish’s translucence that is helping scientists better understand how cancer works in the body, Sify.com reports. Scientists studying these tiny fish have discovered just how cancer cells spread. They used fluorescent tags to label tumor cells and track their behavior in the body. They noticed in the early stages of cancer, cancerous cells co-opt the body’s immune system to promote cancer growth. This research with zebrafish could pave the way for new therapies to treat early stages of cancer in people.
