Weather conditions caused some problems for last fall’s corn and soybean harvests. Some crops weren’t harvested until calendar year 2010. But USDA Meteorologist Brad Rippey says it doesn’t look like that will be a problem this season…
“With the warm summer we’ve had, virtually across the country, crops have developed well ahead of schedule. In fact, we have harvest activities already well underway across the Deep South.”
In many southern states - Rippey says corn harvest is already approaching the midway point. And as much as one-third of the crop is harvested in states as far north as South Carolina…
“And all those numbers are well ahead of the five-year average paces, so it does look like a quick harvest underway in the south, later that will translate into the mid-west as we head on into September.”
Rippey says even some soybean harvesting is underway…
“16% complete in Louisiana, 13% in Mississippi by August 22nd.
