Well, CTV news reports that scientists have made great strides in the development of a universal flu vaccine – a vaccine that could protect against a broad range of flu viruses. Scientists say they have developed a two-step vaccine that effectively protected mice, ferrets and monkeys from many different flu viruses including H1N1. Finding a universal flu vaccine is critical because when there is a flu outbreak – like the 2009 H1N1 outbreak - it takes a while to develop vaccines. The next step is to see if this new vaccine protects people and if it works, this universal vaccine could be available in the next few years.
