Posted on Wed, Jun 6, 2012

The state convention for South Carolina’s FFA organization is this weekend. Keith Cox, Executive Director of the South Carolina FFA Association:

“It will be held June 6,7 and 8th at Clemson University.”

This year’s attendance is slated to be a record, according to Cox:

“This year we have a record high of over seven hundred registered. “

According to Cox, many awards and scholarships will be presented at this year’s convention:

“We will be celebrating all of the accomplishments they have had throughout the year. We will be recognizing our CDE winners, Career, Development and Event students who have taken what they have learned in the classroom and applied it in another situation. We also have many National FFA scholarship winners. “

But, it’s not all work during convention says Cox:

“Its fun as we get to meet people from all over the state. We have a night at the union on campus with some games to enjoy each others company.”

And while at Clemson, convention-goers can get a taste of college life:

“Many will stay on campus in the dorms. There will also be tours of Clemson showing the different departments, mainly in the College of Agriculture. “

As in other parts of the nation, South Carolina’s FFA organization remains strong, and getting stronger explains Cox:

“Our membership has reached a 34 year high, of over 6000 members. “
