The South Carolina agribusiness council is all about keeping those with an interest in agriculture up to speed on the latest happenings in agriculture and agribusiness. The Council’s Secretary/Treasurer Steve Slice:
“We meet quarterly, usually in February, May, August and November.”
The Council’s meeting coming up on the time will focus on Agritourism, according to Slice:
“Our meeting on August 9th at the Farm Bureau in Cayce SC. We will have Dr. Dave Lamee speak about agritourism through Clemson. We will also have Ed Boyles from Clemson Extension and Amanda Bollinger from Clemson University. They will be speaking on topics like the PeeDee Agritourism Passport and the South Carolina Agritourism manual. We will also have a few owners of agritourism businesses speak at the meeting.”
Slice outlines the time and place for the meeting:
“The meeting starts at 10 am on August 9th. It will be held in the Farm Bureau building in Cayce SC. We will go until about noon and then enjoy a catered lunch.”
Slice explains the cost of the meeting:
“It will be $12 at the door or if you are a member it will be $8. If you want to join, the annual dues are $20.”
The SC Agribusiness Council also hosts two tours a year, spring and fall to see different businesses that involve or cater to agriculture around the state:
“Our fall tour this year will be in Westminister. We will be visiting the only certified organic cattle farm in South Carolina. We will then go to Red Cedar Creek Farm where they raise border collies for herding purposes.”
Slice explains that all with an interest in agriculture are welcome to join the council and attend the quarterly meetings:
“We invite anyone who has an interest in agriculture to come and learn and support it.”
Again, that’s the SC Agribusiness Council quarterly meeting at the SC Farm Bureau in Cayce at 10:00 am on Thursday followed by a catered lunch. All are welcome.
