For the third year, North Carolina Pork Council will hold their annual meeting and pork council during the Southern Farm Show. Ann Edmonson, Director of Marketing and Communications for NCPC:
“On Thursday, February 2nd, we will hold all of our seminars at the Martin building at the fairgrounds, and that begins at 9:00 am running through our annual meeting which begins at 4:00 pm. And then on Friday, we have our annual awards breakfast out at the Marriot Crabtree Valley.”
Edmonson explains the line up on Thursday:
“We’re having some OIC, Operator in Charge, for credit hours in the morning on Thursday the 2nd, one of those is going to be an update on the reorganization of DENR and Soil and Water, and that’s going to be presented by Christine Lawson, who’s with the Division of Water Quality at DENR, and that will be followed by a panel discussion on irrigation and nutrient management with some of our producers from our integrator companies, we’re going to have an update from both our National Pork Board representatives and the National Pork Producers Council.”
Edmonson says that also on Thursday afternoon, a very important topic will be covered:
“I think probably the headline of the event will be Thursday afternoon, we’re going to have a seminar on trespassing which can be an issue on many levels with bio-security and such and how the producers can protect their farms. And we have a great panel on this, we have the Honorable Ernie Lee, who is the District Attorney in Judicial District 4, which is Sampson, Onslow, Duplin and Jones Counties, and then Jimmie Thornton who is the sheriff in Sampson County, and also a pork producer, and then Frank Sheffield, who is an attorney at Warden Smith. So, those three gentlemen are going to present us with some information on trespassing; what is trespassing, how can we prevent it; what our recourse is and then Deborah Johnson, our CEO, is going to moderate.”
As far as cost, Edmonson explains that most of the event is free of charge and it’s not too late to register:
“If you’d like, you can go on our website, and you can register right there on line, with no problem, and if that’s not something you want to do, you are more than welcome to just show up the day of either, at the fairgrounds on Thursday or the Marriot on Friday, and we can register you right on site. As for Thursday, there’s no fee for any of that, and we are providing a complimentary lunch, and on Friday there’s a $10 fee if you pre-register, and a $15 fee if you register at the door.”
