Senator Robert Menendez from New Jersey says he will introduce broad immigration legislation in the coming weeks that includes a path to citizenship for undocumented residents and an overhaul of enforcement measures. Menendez says his legislation - will have plenty of Republican ideas in it. That’s something previous legislation has not had.

Majority Leader Harry Reid said in the past that he will not bring an immigration bill to the floor unless it has Republican backers and a chance of passage. Earlier this week Reid said he would attempt to amend the fiscal 2011 defense authorization bill with a provision that would extend legal status and a path to citizenship to some children of illegal immigrants.
