The President’s Office of Management Budget and Chief of Staff are directing agencies to target “low –priority” programs for cuts in the 2012 budget plan. Agri-Pulse reports that Peter Orszag and Rahm Emanuel, in a letter to agency heads, said - our Nation’s finances are on a unsustainable course, and it is imperative that we restore fiscal responsibility. The Administration is proposing a 3-year freeze in non-security discretionary funding.
The letter called on agencies to identify programs and subprograms that have the lowest impact on the agency’s mission and constitute at least five percent of the agency’s discretionary budget. A similar effort was made last year. |
