Blackland Farm Managers Field Tour a Success

The 42nd Annual Blackland Farm Managers Field Tour was held in Hyde County on Wednesday at Mann Farms in Fairfield. Rhonda Garrison was there and spoke with Mac Gibbs, County Extension Director in Hyde County:

“We had 6 researchers out here at the field day today. During the winter we do a four county road show. We take specialists and we will do eight programs in the four counties, two in each. We will take all the data from these test plots and share it with them. Today’s objective was to show them the plots we are doing the research on and come winter time we will be sharing all of the information we learn here.

We are very pleased with the turn out today, about 300 people. The majority of them are farmers and not government or industry people. It shows that this really is truly for the farmers.

We have had some good looking crops this year in Hyde County. I think we will have some very high corn and soybean yields, maybe 82+ bushels on the soybean side. The early planted corn will really be the best corn. And the soybeans planted in late April/early May are going to be really good as well.

This is also great cotton land. We started back into cotton here in the early 90’s. Fourteen to seventeen hundred pounds of cotton is not unheard of in these parts.”
