Corn Field Days Underway in North Carolina

  Program 8540  (download mp3)
Posted on Thu, Jul 19, 2012

It’s that time of year….time for field days for corn and soybeans. NC State Extension Corn Specialist Dr. Ron Heiniger explains that there’s three this year, the first one today:

“We have our first at Pamlico County on Thursday. It will feature several different corn demonstrations. After that, the Northeast Ag Expo in HAS>>> county at the Grey Farm, just south of Elizabeth City is on July 26. That will also feature corn where the crop looks excellent this year. The final one is the Blackland Farm Tour on August 1st down in Fairfield.”

While all three field days will feature variety trials, there will be others later in the summer, according to Heiniger:

“Later in the year we will have some variety trial walk through’s in Davidson County as well as in the Statesville area. We will have some show and tell there in late August. If anyone is interested, please contact me (Ron Heiniger) and (he) will provide directions or more information.”

Many producers put in irrigation this year, and many others are thinking about it. Heiniger explains that they too have done irrigation and non-irrigation trials for producers that might be on the fence:

“We have irrigation on three different sites this year, so we’ll have good comparisons. For those considering irrigation, we should have some good variety recommendations.”

Dr. Ron Heiniger, NC State Extension Corn Specialist.
