Animal Research Minute - Do comfort foods actually make us depressed?

Well, the Vancouver Sun reports new research with mice suggests fatty, comfort foods are linked to depression and anxiety by altering the brain’s emotion and reward circuits. Experts studying mice have proven that fat-rich foods cause anxiety and depression in mice, and the same may be true for people. High-fat foods cause a chemical reaction in the brain that mirrors addiction, and also causes a similar comedown. This could be why the foods we eat to feel better could actually make us feel worse.
