The Southern Farm Show got underway at 9:00 am on Wednesday morning at the State Fair Grounds in Raleigh. David Zimmerman, President of Southern Shows, the host of the Southern Farm Show:

"We had a nice crowd today, a little windy but the weather was beautiful, so the farmers came out and they're buying so that's a good sign for all of our companies here. "

Are you hearing good feedback from the exhibitors?

"Hearing good feedback that farmers are getting ready, getting serious  for the season coming up and making some purchases... so, that's what we're all about here"

Let's talk a little bit bout what we've got going on at the Farm Show here in 2011:

"We've got a lot going on.  In the next two days we'll have the Pork Producers Annual meeting at the fairgrounds. We'll have the Soy Bean growers  having a major meeting here.  They're bringing in the world-record soybean grower in the United States and so a lot of farmers are coming out to hear him."

Outstanding, also later today we have the Commissioners annual Ag Forum:  "That starts down in the Holshauser building and its going to be about the economics of agriculture and what the outlook is for the coming year."

And then to wrap things up on Friday:  "Friday is our last day here and that will wrap up with the Tobacco Growers meeting on Friday at 11:00.  After the show closes the Southern National Draft Horse Pull will take place, down in  the Hunt Horse arena on the fair grounds."

I understand you have quite a few new exhibitors here this year:  "Got a lot of new folks... creating a lot of interest.  Got a lot of new Canadian manufacturers down at the show this year with tobacco barns... it's really interesting,  the farmers enjoy seeing the new equipment."

I noticed a lot of logging equipment this year:  "Lot of sawmills in action out there... so if you have some timberland and want to do some of your own sawing there's probably about six different manufacturers of sawmills here..."

The Southern Farm Show gets underway this morning at 9:00 am with the NC Ag Commissioner’s Forum starting at 10:00 am in the Holshouser building. The show runs through 4:00 pm Friday at the State Fair Grounds in Raleigh.
