April is Plant Pest Month

April is National Plant Pest Awareness Month, and North Carolina’s Ag Commissioner, Steve Troxler says the category includes noxious weeds, diseases and insects.  Currently, there are four pests under federal quarantine in North Carolina; witchweed, emerald ash borer, European gypsy moth and the imported fire ant.

All four of these species are under quarantine, so when moving plant materials, certain plants from a quarantined are to a non-quarantined area, you must obtain a permit.
