Animal Research Minute – Help for Brain Cancer

Could a new treatment finally help those with a deadly brain cancer called glioblastoma?
 

Well, a new experimental treatment called Toca 511 has been shown to eradicate tumors in mice with glioblastoma, a devastating brain cancer with a dismal prognosis. Even after someone diagnosed with glioblastoma undergoes surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, the brain cancer is nearly always fatal. Almost all mice treated with Toca 511 survived about four times longer than mice that didn’t receive it. There is an urgent need for new treatments for patients with glioblastoma and these initial results with mice are very promising.
