Dan Weathington, the longtime executive director of the North Carolina Small Grain Growers Association, has passed away. He was 73.
He was honored with many awards during his years in agriculture, which included: Robeson County Outstanding Contribution to Agriculture Award, NC FFA Lifetime Achievement Award, Honorary NC Seedsman of the Year Award, and NC Dept. of Agriculture’s Ambassador of Agriculture Award. He retired from the NCSGGA in 2019.
Weathington was instrumental in the North Carolina Plant Sciences initiative at NC State University.
“Dan was an incredible ambassador and advocate for North Carolina Agriculture and made North Carolina a better place to work,” Richard Linton, dean of the NC State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, told the CALS News. “He also provided the catalyst needed for the vision and funding the N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative. Without Dan, there would be no N.C. PSI. He will be missed dearly but remembered always.”
