African swine fever continues its conquest of eastern Europe and Asia, now claiming outbreaks in Moldova and Russia.
Porkbusiness.com reports that ASF claimed three more pigs in an outbreak in Cantemir near the border with Romania. Moldova has reported outbreaks previously as well, according to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). Ten more pigs were slaughters as a precaution.
Reuters also reports an outbreak of ASF was detected at a small farm in Russia’s Primorsk region near its border with China. This is the first reported outbreak in Russia.
