A Certified SC Journey

The Certified SC Grown Program just celebrated a 10-year milestone, and SC Ag Commissioner Hugh Weathers says the program is going strong.

The program offers a retail merchandising team that specializes in helping farmers identify niche markets, not only in South Carolina but all up and down the east coast.

Regional chains like IGA or the Southeastern Grocers will source from farms that are close to each store, while national brands will move South Carolina produce as far west as Texas, and even into Canada and Mexico.

In addition to connecting farmers and retailers, the merchandising team also helps farmers identify market trends and opportunities to diversify.

A native of the Texas Panhandle, Rhonda was born and raised on a cotton farm where she saw cotton farming evolve from ditch irrigation to center pivot irrigation and harvest trailers to modules. After graduating from Texas Tech University, she got her start in radio with KGNC News Talk 710 in Amarillo, Texas.
